As I explained in my post last week, I’ve been working on assignments for an online course about art history, and trying to use these assignments as a springboard back into artistic practice.
For the second assignment, we were instructed to choose an object or an image, turn it into something else, then turn it back into itself again. We could physically deconstruct or manipulate something, or try changing the context or point of view. Then we had to post the results, and explain what we did.
This was my effort;
And this is what I wrote;
I decided to craft a response, as a keen knitter and crocheter. I chose a simple red yarn as my object, and with the aid of a 3.5mm crochet hook, turned it into a flower. When I’d finished, I unravelled the project back into yarn again. I particularly like the almost transitory nature of knitted or crocheted goods, that it isn’t at all difficult to return a garment or a piece back into its constituent parts, which may be reused.
