Icy is a folklore blogger and host of the Fabulous Folklore podcast. She is based in the north east of England, where she was born and raised amid the folk tales and legends of Tyneside and Northumberland. Icy is fascinated by history, cinema, art, and the occult, and griffins will always be her favourite mythical beast. She also writes dark fantasy novellas, Gothic short stories and the occasional weird Western, and she holds a PhD in Film Studies!
Oh, wow. I don’t think answering that is a good idea … wicked nasty, Icy. I’ll be thinking about this for a while.
Curiosity killed the Kitty!
Wanted to tell you how much I like your new look … very sharp!
Love the atmosphere in this. Pieces like this is where your film education really stands out. If this had been a short film, I would imagine everyone leaning off the edges of their seats, whispering “Don’t go in there!”
I tend to think in films, really. It helps! I’m glad it shows though.
Chilling. I like the bravery choosing to venture the route to dread, to see, and realize. Very nice.
I like to think I’d be the same!
I often wonder about the type of people who opt to work with the dead. I know I couldn’t do it and even though I don’t believe in ghosts or the supernatural, I’m sure I would get totally spooked in such an environment
I think most people would, really, but then again is the environment actually spooky, or do people simply project their own fears or thoughts into the space?
Strange – I thought it was compassionate of her to open the door. I think the souls are eager to leave the corridor and go over to the church.
But I could be wrong. Terribly wrong.
Hey, it’s as valid a reading as any!
Still, you’ve got to answer! This is wonderfully creepy, Icy. Dug it, and a fine first piece for me to read on your new site. The place looks sharp.
Glad you liked it!
Deliciously chilling Icy! I love the suspenseful build-up and the ambivalence in the end.
Thanks! I think in some ways I’d be more worried by who the mysterious morticians are than wants making the knocking.
Ooh…I love how you left that open for the reader. Nicely done.
Well, the girl did wonder, I guess she’s going to find out now.
Creepy story Icy.
I know it’s a bit late for me to say so, but I do like the look of this blog. 🙂
It’ll be changing a bit more when I get my new theme for it!
There are some calls that are probably best left unanswered. I like how you ended this, leaving it vague as to which way it’ll go. For me, I hope she doesn’t live (or die) to regret her choice. A good story, Icy.
Hey, true enlightenment could lurk behind the door for all we know!
Nice atmosphere and slow build up of tension to this one Icy – Now I need to shout – Nooooooo don’t answer it you fool! ^_^
Yeah, she’s obviously never seen a horror movie.
I love how the knocks move around and finally end up ahead in the room that must be entered. I thought it worked very well :).
Thanks!
I agree that answering the door is a sort of compassion — but I’m sticking at “sort of” because I don’t think the narrator herself fully comprehends the implications. The ones knocking may not either.
Great descriptions here. It actually reminded me of nursing stories my ex-MIL told me (although she never really spoke of dead patients).
Hi there! I could have sworn I’ve visited this website before but after looking at many of the posts I realized it’s new to me.
Nonetheless, I’m certainly happy I came across
it and I’ll be book-marking it and checking back frequently!
