The freelancer occupies an interesting position in the workplace.
They’re self-employed, so they have all of the problems associated with finding clients, filing tax returns, and marketing a business.
But they also have tremendous freedom to take on the projects that interest them, work where and when they want, and build a lifestyle that suits their needs.
If you’ve ever wanted to try freelancing, but didn’t know where to start, then I have the solution for you!
Launch Your Life As A Freelance Writer
A few months ago, I encountered the very lovely Lizzie Davey on a Facebook group. I checked out a blog post she’d written, and something clicked in my brain.
I wanted to make a living with my writing.
Sure, I write fiction and I do make a small income from that. But I love blogging, and writing copy, and sending emails full of folklore and photos to my list. Could I make a living doing that for other people?
So I enrolled. I now have my own copywriting website set up (which you can find here, if you’re so inclined) and I’ve already begun the process of applying for freelance writing jobs, and sending out pitches to brands I’d love to work with.
If I hadn’t done Lizzie’s course, I doubt I’d have done any of that, simply through not knowing where to start.
What does the course include?
Launch Your Life As A Freelance Writer comprises 21 lessons, split into four modules. They cover all of the things that Lizzie used herself to go from $0 to $5,000+ a month.
Module 1 covers the early days, and how to prepare for actually going freelance. Lizzie covers the different types of writing jobs that are available, setting goals, and keeping on the right side of the law.
Module 2 goes into setting up your freelancer website, creating a portfolio, crafting pitches, and working out your prices. For me, this was the most important module as it creates the foundation you’ll be working on.
Module 3 covers how to find clients, and how to land consistent work using social media.
Module 4 helps you to set up your workflow, find testimonials, use referrals, and create a marketing strategy.
Within that, you get plenty of worksheets and tasks, swipe files, and lifetime access to new material. Lizzie’s also super approachable, and she runs a brilliant Facebook group where you can get advice and support from other freelancers.
How do I find out more?
The new version of Launch Your Life As A Freelance Writer went live at 9am today so you can already head on over and sign up!
This is an affiliate link, but I wouldn’t promote the course if I hadn’t found it so exceedingly helpful. It’s a brilliant course for the practical side of getting started, as well as increasing your confidence.
Plus, if you click that link you can also check out Lizzie’s other course, Bag Clients With Your Blog.
Launch Your Life as a Freelance Writer is currently just $147, but it’s going up to $187 on 27th September. I’ve found freelance jobs that pay $150 for one blog post, so if you put everything into practice, you can earn back the cost pretty quickly.
Plus, if you’re not happy, you can get a full refund within the first 30 days.

Really great review, Icy! If I hadn’t already taken a course a while ago I would definitely take Lizzie’s, as she always gives amazing down-to-earth advice. I follow many of the top freelance writers and I must say Lizzie is refreshingly different as she doesn’t hype things up, and is just genuinely knowledgeable and helpful.

Hi Icy,
You have a brand new subscriber – me!
Looking forward to reading your book.
I am a huge fan of Lizzie too. She writes fabulously!
What I want to know is – did you acquire any clients through the course?
How long did it take you?
Thanks!

I didn’t acquire clients directly through the course but the course did help me put a portfolio together! One of my clients was a referral from another course I did, another came via a Facebook group, and another was after I emailed a local startup hub and offered free content so I could build my portfolio…which turned into a regular gig! I think it maybe took six months to get those?
